Radisson Blu Hotel Lietuva in Vilnius has held onto its coveted Green Key hotel status, in part because of its adoption of energy saving bulbs.
The Green Key programme was created to raise the awareness of energy conservation in the tourism and leisure industries - such as embracing renewable energy sources and installing low energy bulbs.
Radisson Blu won its status by fulfilling a long list of requirements, ranging from purely environmental demands to action plans and policies.
Based in the city centre, the hotel saved water by installing flow regulators and washing in bigger bulks, saved heat and electricity through low energy light bulbs and installed programmable thermostats.
Additionally, rubbish is now carefully sorted so that a larger amount of it can be recycled and the hotel's staff has started using eco-friendly cleaning products.
Food has also been sourced locally, while the staff is given regular training on the company's environmental activities.
